Switching to Fedora

I'm a Linux newbie currently running Red Hat 9.

I'm looking to updating Linux and since there will be no Red Hat 10, would it be recommended to a newbie like myself to install Fedora or switch to another Linux distribution?

I'm not sure to go for either Fedora or Mandrake Linux 9.2.

Any clues?

Howzit

Give it a BASH as fedora base is the same as RH9 u will notice that all the cmds r the same from distro to the other. U say that u have RH9 installed if u change I 'm sure u will not notice the differance.

I used Mandrare 9.1 and IMO fedora is much faster and more polished than that distro. I mean MUCH faster. Also, you will get yum -- easy web update tool.

At the other hand, im Mdk mp3 and video support comes of the box, while in Fedora you have to download additional packages.

eel, mp3 support in Fedora is as easy as:

(run as root)
cd /etc/apt/gpg && wget http://rpm.livna.org/RPM-LIVNA-GPG-KEY) && rpm --import /etc/apt/gpg/RPM-LIVNA-GPG-KEY && apt-get install xmms-mp3

Note that everything but the "apt-get install xmms-mp3" only needs to be run once, it downloads Livna's GPG key so that apt can make sure the RPMs are signed by them.

And to install XINE to play videos:
apt-get install xine xine-lib xine-lib-devel gxine

After that xmms should be able to play mp3's, and gxine should work for videos.
