Question switching from RH9 to fedora 2

greetings...i am a very inexperienced linux user that is currently running a dual boot (RH( and XP) system. i would love to be MS-free, but i spend a lot of time online playing games and surfing multi-media sites, and i always find myself switching to XP after i hit a wall using RH...could someone suggest whenther i should switch to fedora, and possible suggest a 'how-to' for newbies on installing fedora, wine, and mplayer?? i have downloaded mplayer, but i cannot seem to get it installed...PLEASE HELP

do a google search for a package named apt
install it

then, from the command line (as root)

apt-get update

from the command line (as root)

apt-get install mplayer

the EASIEST way to install this is

as for fedora?
core 2 is just AWESOME
gnome 2.6 is a delight to use (and I was a happy Mandrake/KDE man for over a year).
Personally, I think it leaves the other distros standing.
