speed

I have a custom desktop with a 2.4ghz pentium processor , 1GB of ram, an ATI 9800 pro video card and a hauppage TV capture card.

When I had only windows xp pro on my computer I had no speed problems at all, I could play 3d games at the same time that I watch TV on my seconday monitor wilthout lag. I have been playing with fedora on a diffrent machine and it runs about as slow as I would expect due to the hardware in it.

Recently I installed Fedora Core 4 on my main machine and it is just as slow as my older machine. When I watch TV on the seconday monitor it gets nearly unbearable.

I was always under the impression that linux uses less resources and wold be quicker than windows but that is not the case for me yet. Is there something I might be doing wrong or is linux just not speedy?

done

I have installed the correct drivers and now I get about 4k FPS with the gears test. although now I have lost dual monitor support ...... any ideas? Also the system still uses 50% of my processor when I am only watching TV on it, is that normal? or perhaps there are some happauge drivers I need to find too.

also I get this error when I am booting the machine up
FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.13-1.1532_FC4/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-acpifreq.ko): No Such Device
any idea what this is? and could it be causing my speed issues?
