Sound conflict between Skype & XMMS/Rhythmbox

hi all,

I have a perfectly working Fedora 8 install on my i686 desktop. I use Skype to communicate with others, and both XMMS & Rhythmbox to listen to online radio.

All those apps are working fine.

The problem comes when I use XMMS or Rhythmbox to listen to something. If a person calls me on Skype, I can't hear the ringing, and when I accept the call, it says the sound device failed. I have to turn off XMMS/Rhythmbox, and then call back the person on Skype in order to communicate.

Then, once I am done speaking on Skype, i hang up. If I turn on XMMS, it won't work. It says the sound device is busy.

I guess there's a conflict somewhere... There might be a way to configure the sound properly...

If any of you has an idea about it,don't hesitate to post it.

Thanks in advance !

My memory is failing more as i get older...
in simple terms as i dont have the brains available to explain any better at the moment(sorry its an age complaint)...

whats actually happening is an application has taken control of that device(audio) and its not releasing it for the other device which requires it, now how to fix it i cant answer at this stage( brain fault), but if you research this, you should find something around about giving skype a higher priority and allowing it to steal the audio device when required and learn a short cut to kill that so another app can take control....

hope this explains a bit, sorry about not having the answer tho....
