slmodem driver w/ Fedora core 5

Hello, I'm pretty new to the linux world. I just installed Fedora 5 and I've been trying to get a modem working so I can get it online. I purchased a Smartlink PCI modem that states it works w/ Linux.

I followed the method for installing the driver slmodem-2.9.11) for Fedora 4 which I found on this site, however when I run make, I get errors:

root@localhost slmodem]# make
make -C modem all

make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/slmodem/modem'
make -C drivers KERNEL_DIR=/lib/modules/2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp/build

make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/slmodem/drivers'
make[1]: *** [all] Error 2

Is there a work around for the st7554.o "owner" error?

Thanks for you help!

A checklist I'd try:
- is there a core 5 package?
- can you give some configure parameters that would affect this problem?
- does the modem actually need slmodem-drivers (is it a winmodem? hardware modems should work without slmodem-drivers)

Also have you tried different versions of the compiler?

Sorry I don't have better ideas..at the moment, anyway. By the way, has someone got slmodem drivers working under Core5, have you googled?
