Hi,
I have been trying to shut down my PC after using but I cant, and from reading a few forum pages, there seem to be a problem with FC7, even though I have followed some simple instruction to add acpi=force into the grub.conf, but nothing changes and still till date I cant shut down the PC properly, and if this keeps going on, I think it might damage my PC.
I have not tried Console X because I am a newbie, I have no confident to try it, but while on Gnome desktop I use the window's way to shut down and all I get is a system halt and then my system hangs there till I push and hold the on/off button till my CPU shuts down, and I read somewhere that it is not good to do that.
I've had the same problem in KDE before. Skype was my problem, once I closed down skype then I was able to do s graphical shutdown. But after a upgrade to to latest beta Skype version the problem went away.
- Try closing any extra programs then doing a restart.
- If you computer hangs, and you can't "click", use one of the 6 consoles that are available to you. They live under the function keys f1-f6, ( f7 = X )you access team be doing Ctrl-Alt-f1. the screen will go black and you can logon as root.
Once logged on you write
Code:
reboot
or if that dosn't work
Code:
shutdown -h now
. You can att any time go back to your graphic interface ( X ) buy pushing Ctrl-Alt-f7.
This should help you from killing your filesystem by pushing the button on your computer.
