Question Should I migrate to Fedora 3 from Suse 9.1?

Hi there,

Im currently using Suse 9.1 personal edition, but I am having some major problems in finding software for it, most software developers dont do suse rpms, or I am finding when I try to install from tarball I am getting lots of dependency problems.

So, as I have heard some good things about it, it would be cool to get an opinion on fedoara, as if it seems better, I think I will migrate to it.

I can buy a DVD or a 3 CD of Fedora, sot it should have more on it than my one disk Suse version, so that should be better for a start.

Basiclly what I need is an OS that will -

Be easy to find new up to date software for
Will have lots of rpms avaialble
Will minimise dependency issues by having lots of packages as standard
Be very easy to install, and do this graphiclly
Will be good at recognising the hardware and drives I have, Suse has recognised everything
Stable
Secure
Reliable
Free to get security updates for

It would be great to get an opinion on this and if you think fedora would meet my needs better than Suse, as really it is driving me crazy the problems Im having with Suse, but I dont want to go back to Windows, is Fedora better than Suse?

Thanks for your help.

That's ok if we wait one day, you will be trying a different distro. I think you would be better off to stick with one distro long enough to learn it.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

Didn't you just ask this question on another area of the forum?

As I stated there, there's lots of software for both distros. Use the search feature and you'll find it. Both are great distros and there is no "best," only what works best for you.

While suse might not have as many repositories as some distros, lots of software updates are avaliable via yast repositories. See this thread for more info - http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=253645

rpbone.net is another good source for suse packages
