No DVI-D output under FC13 on Acer L460

I've just upgraded from fc9 to fc13 on an Acer Veriton L460.

Under fc9, I had the monitor connected using the Acer DVI-D output. First I noticed that when booting the fc13 dvd distro, the video disappeared before the intro screen. Changing to the VGA video output "fixed" this and the install went normally.

But now with fc13 installed (and updated), I can't get any output from the DVI-D and have to use VGA--which is fine, but inconvenient as I want to use the VGA monitor input for occasional work on an old (fc5) machine I can't really switch off yet which only has VGA video out.

Any clues why DVD-D was working under fc9, but not fc13? I'm reasonably experienced on unix/linux, but this one is out of my comfort zone.

i take it you did a full 100% clean install ?
seeing as it was a jump from the dead fedora 9 to fedora 13

this Might also be that the xorg in Fedora 13 is 1.8 and there are not to many drivers out for 1.8 . For 1.6 and 1.7 yes -- but 1.8 - not many .

did you read the release notes for fedora 13 ? and the hardware requirements ?

Good thought. I checked what looked like the relevant sections in the release notes, but did not find anything. Also looked in the /etc/X11 files to see if I could get a clue but found nothing obvious (to me). Guess the answer is that on certain hardware, fc13 will not drive the DVI-D interface.

Still not sure what I'm doing (but learning). The xrandr output is:

Code:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA1 connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 376mm x 301mm
   1280x1024 60.0 + 75.0*
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0
   832x624 74.6
   800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   640x480 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0
   720x400 70.1
DVI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
The "DVI1 disconnected" seems to confirm what I already know. The question is can it be enabled, or does this indicate that there is no driver for it? I've looked at the man pages for xrandr, and tried "xrandr --output DVI1 --auto" but no change.
