update...

I copied this from a collegues linux machine at work, replaced the line in my fstab for this one and al is working now

/dev/hdb1 /mnt/AnimeHDD ntfs umask=0,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0

Could you tell me what the iso bit is?

now maybe you could help me with viewing files like .ogm and .mpg...what application do you recommend?

hi

nls stands for Native language support
this is required for mounting partitons,
and 8859-1 is required to read the windows partitions
if u do not have the required nls support in ur kernel then u may not be able to mount ur partitions

to mount windows partions we need 8859-1 nls support
here while u r mounting u partiuon the default might have been set to someother nls ,so u r specifying which nls to use while mounting,so i think this has solved ur problem...
