Post Migrating from FC1 to FC2: What will be required?

Hello all,

With FC2 just days away, and myself being a Linux newbie, I'm not sure what will be required after I burn the FC2 CDs and decide to install.

Now, on a Windows system, I'd keep all the stuff I want to keep in a directory like C:\NotTrash and then delete everything else; then install the new OS. I don't have the option of burning CDs nor transferring them over LAN/Internet and I don't mind re-installing software like NetBeans, JDK, Firebird et al. That too, I'm using ONLY 10GB for Linux as I'm still keeping a "just-in-case" WinXP for those things which cannot be done in Linux (specifically, viewing webcast lectures at my Uni)

But as I understand it, Linux has a boot partition, swap partition, and main partition (!) and I'm really at a loss as to what to keep, delete, or modify...

So yeah. Will FC2 Installer take care of trashing everything? How do I keep my important files from getting trashed too? Or can FC2 just install over FC1 - is that even a good idea? (Installing new OSes over old ones has ALWAYS caused trouble for me.)

Help from a pro would be greatly appreciated!

Daniel

fedora can allocate all the partitions automagically
though to be on the safe side, i would dump the 'c:/not trash' onto the just in case winXP partition then take it back off once you have upgraded...

failing that, keep all your usuful settings and stuff in the /home directory, and make sure disk druid dosent get its greasey hands on it :P

i recientally reinstalled FC1 foprmatting everything but my old home partition... when i logged in... everything was exactally as i left it... settings, bookmarks, theems... so it should be easy enough.
