Manual Partitioning while installing Fedora 32

I have a PC running Fedora 26. I want to change the OS to Fedora 32.
I have started the process - and found a slight discrepancy between the Install Guide and reality.
The Install Guide says that in the Installation Destination page I will have the option of clicking the "I will configure partitioning" - but in reality there was 2 choices "Custom" and "Advanced Custom". The Custom button most closely matched the description that followed.
I think that I worked out what I was supposed to do with /home - but I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong with the system /. (see attached screenshot). I clicked on / under SYSTEM on the left hand side and then entered / as the mount point. Based on the error message which appeared, I changed the File System to be EFI System Partition and opted to Reformat it. I clicked on Update Settings and then Done - but it didn't like it.
The Device Type was not selectable.
What should I do (or not do)?

No, the (root) system partition (to be mounted on /) is not an EFI system partition (to be mounted under /boot/EFI), reformat it as ext4 if you want to or as xfs or whatever was suggested by default. See Fig. 5.1 in Performing a standard RHEL installation. Different filesystem types you may choose from are described in Fedora Installation Guide.

OK, I have had another go (see attached composite of 4 screen shots) and I get the same error message.
I said to reformat the system partition, but I neglected to say reformat the boot partition.
Selecting swap did not appear to give me any editable options.
When I clicked on Done, I got the same error message.
I still don't understand what it is trying to tell me.

You unchecked Reformat on /home. That's right. But if I were you I'd reformat anew all the rest, i.e. /, /boot, and swap. / and /boot as ext4, swap as swap.

In your case, that would be
Code:
Partition	FileSys	MountPt	Reformat?
fedora-home	ext4	/home	NO
fedora-root	ext4	/	yes
fedora-swap	swap	swap	yes
sda1 ext4	/boot	yes

I think the missing piece to the puzzle is that Anaconda (the installer) is demanding an EFI partition be created. It's detected the firmware and requires an EFI partition of type [V]FAT. Would be simplest to just delete the /boot and give each half a gig.

OK. I did that and deleted the old boot partition and then added two new partitions. As I did so, I got helpful drop-downs so I could select /boot and /boot/EFI.
Anaconda seemed happy with what I had done so I went ahead and installed.
Once it had completed the installation, it told me that it had finished and I could start using Fedora. It did not reboot or do anything by itself, so I initiated a power off and reboot (and removed the DVD). I then got a message to the effect "Unrecognised File System" and took me to GRUB Recover.
I suspect that something went wrong.
I get the impression that I didn't manage to preserve my /home partition - fortunately, I have backed up just about everything, so I guess that I will redo the installation, allowing Anaconda to manage all the partitioning by itself - and then restore from my backup.

Use Gparted on another operating system to resize a partion and leave it unformatted. Do not use ext 4 as Fedora is weird with it's own partitioning system. Then install you will then have a dual boot. I like always to add a third operating system Windows 12 Lite so that whatever system you booted last it will reboot that again and the grub screen has a feather picture.

If you only have one partition you will have to boot Gparted or Parted-Magic from a DVD or USB.
