Licensing and distribution of Linux

Hi all,

I downloaded Fedora Core Distribution and customized it and integrated some other applications in it . Now, can I sell it and if so, how can I restrict the end users from copying it or multiplying copies of it.And how can I get the license for my new distribution.

Thanks in advance.

READ the GPL Agreement before you set out to do anything regarding selling and distributing so that you know what you can or cannot do.

Read the GPL that comes along your software (Fedora Core). Basically every piece of software has it's own licence, but probably most of them work under some version of GPL, so get to know it.

You probably need to distribute the sources too, even if you did sell it, and couldn't actually prevent them from further distributing it. Open source can't be closed that easily, at least not without a permission from the creator of the code. My guess, though not nearly sure, is that you cannot prevent the redistribution of the software completely. Not the way Microsoft does.

You'll probably have to strip out Fedora and Red Hat logos first. You probably can't change the licensing of any of the software, so there's no way to restrict users from turning around and doing exactly what you just did, and as B0uncer said, you'll probably have to make the source available too.
