Question K-Mail won't send mail

In FC5 wit h KDE Desktop I'm trying to use K-Mail. It is receiving mail but when I try to send mail I get this in the status bar:

<lock icon> Unrecognized transport protocol. Unable to send message.

I have my >Account>Sending set up the same as in Kubuntu and Suse. Under security I have tried 'none', 'TLS', and 'SSL' currently it's set to 'TLS' [same as Kubuntu and Suse]. I have Anti-Spam [Spam assassin] and Anti-Virus [F-Prot and Clamav] enabled. The ant-virus programs were installed as root. I have searched this forum [K-Mail] and checked the K-Mail hand book but haven't found anything yet.

Also once you enable Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus how do you disable them. It ain't in the hand book.

If I can't send mail from K-Mail what sent this?

Could this be a firewall problem?

Question

Settings for K-Mail in >Configure-K-Mail:

Name: <My Comcast Login>
Host: smtp.comcast.net [same as Kubuntu and Suse]
Port: 25

I selected 'Server requires Authentication'

Login: <My Comcast Login> [This works for receiving mail]
Password: My Comcast password [This works for receiving mail]

I selected 'Store SMTP password'

On security tab I selected 'Check what server supports'

Encryption: TLS
Authentication Method: PLAIN

All is the same as in Kubuntu. In Suse the only difference is that Authentication Method: CRAM-MD5
which I tried and that didn't work.

Believe me I checked and double checked my settings many times and tried many combinations on the security tab before posting. Yes I can send mail from/to all the same accounts in Thunderbird/FC5, Kubuntu/K-mail, and Suse/K-mail. In Thunderbird I have SSL selected which is only difference from K-Mail. Yes I tried this in K-Mail and it didn't work.

I've also removed my anti-virus filters for the time being. That didn't work either.

I had the problem too maybe it depends upon the mail server your connecting.

In any case, i disable 'Server requires Authentication' for outgoing mail. Its working fine for me now.

You can also try playing with different encryption levels though most outgoing mail servers use TLS. Try using none. Also make sure you assigned a proper port number.

Talking

This link gave me the tip that corrected the problem:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/...5/msg00372.html

I had to delete the 3 saved e-mails I was trying to use and begin new test e-mails. This probably occurred because I changed something in >Kmail-Configure>Accounts>Receiving. Not really sure but my original settings work now. Thanks Bob.
