okay, meybe i'm just dumb and don't know, but what would happen if lunix is on hdb, windows on hda, and you just took out hda during install? Or meybe used lilo. I'm afraid, cause i'm downloading disk 3 as i type, and don't feel like switching and haveing to d/l core 1. But it seems i should be fine. Might want to grab a dvd burner and back-up all my stuff. (like i have the $$$)

Lightbulb wheel mouse solution, maybe

Try clicking on your mouse wheel. It may turn out to be your third button.

Hehe. It is a third button. I know that, but in FC1 it was recognized as Wheel mouse and it worked. In FC2 it is recognized as 3 button mouse and I can't get it to work.

I apologize for hijacking this thread. My question is posted at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...=mouse+fedora+
so anyone answering me please answer there and return this thread to its rightful owner

To the rightful owner: I did a FC2 install for the 20 time probably today and still can't get the mouse working. However I have not experienced any problems with my Win XP at all these 20 installs. Hope I cured all your scares

Question

Phew glad I came across this thread. Searched on this problem specifically as I was about to install Mandrake Community about a month ago and came across stories of the same problem so held off for Core 2, expecting no probs.

So was thinking, are there any tools that can backup a HD MDR, partition tables etc, so should it totally end my XP disk I can try and restore?

what would happen if we used Lilo instead of Grub? Would that prevent the problem from occuring?

As far as I know, there's no Anaconda option to use Lili instead of Grub. Plus, grub seems not to be what may be actually causign the problem. Right now, things are stil a bit confusing.

actually, you get a choice on grub or lilo in anaconda, i was able to install fc2 with no problems, using default settings. See my sig to find out how mine is set up. No problems with my microsoft "3 button mouse" the wheel works just fine.

The whole problem

This whole 'windows will not boot after install of FC2'
is easily resolved,

What you 'may' get after an INSTALL of FC2 (doesnt appear to occur on an upgrade of FC1-FC2) is that after the initial bios screen when it flashes to the system stats (where it shows the ram and hard drives etc listed in a table) you will notice that your HDD says 'CIFS' for access mode

for some reason kernel 2.6 changes it to CIFS instead of LBA

this only occurs on machine that have the access mode for the harddrive set to 'Auto'

if this is the case then goto your bios and change the access mode for your harddrive to LBA

problem solved......well not really solved but worked around

I just read a post that confirms that this bug applies only to harddisks bigger than 120 GB. So now worries if yours is not that huge. However many of these posts end with: "It can be fixed by fixmbr through the win xp recovery console".

So I suggest you all start installing FC2

geez has noone ever heard of ghost.

you arent suing anyone, you should really read EULA's

and all this crap about it blowing away partitions is rubbish

it just changes the access mode to the harddrive
obviously it wont work because its not the correct mode
