Check /var/log/maillog, do you have a number of maillog files ?
Check them , you could be like me and have Sendmail sending out a whole
lot of Spam Mail and after about a month of this your ISP is going to get mad
at you, like mine did.
I had to rpm -e sendmail to shut it up.
And beware of emails that are supposely sent to you from your ISP that have
zip files attached. First time I have ever seen a ISP send attached, zip mail.
I hope your luckier than me

This is a sign that you are a lousy administrator who disregarded security measures when setting up your sendmail server, sorry, no pun intended but it's really your own fault.
Don't set your server up to accept relays and this should solve the problem.
Personally, if spammers are or were using your server as a means to help send spam, I personally hold you liable just as they are and you should have justice brought against you for first, not protecting your own equipment and secondly, disregarding security that affects not only yourself but others. You should have your server shutdown and I don't blame your ISP one bit.
