grub hangs at start

Hi,

I just installed FC5, everything went OK, but when I reboot, the only thing my PC does is a black screen with "GRUB" on it. I had FC2 before, with Grub to switch between XP and LX. I just told the installer to update the Grub and did a clean install of FC5 (after an upgrade trial didn't work, but Grub was working then).

My config is Pentium 4, two HD, one with XP and the other partitioned in a FAT and LX partitions. Grub should be in the MBR of the first disc.

Any advice so that Idon't loose my data on the XP HD?

Boot with the Fedora Core 5 installation media (the first CD or the DVD) into rescue mode by typing "linux rescue" minus the quotemarks when the menu is displayed. Answer a few questions and read the on screen messages.

When ready follow the instructions about using the 'chroot' command, when done type something like; /sbin/grub-install --recheck /dev/hda
