Gnome "button bar" Problem

I currently have Fedora Core one installed. I'm running the Gnome Windows Manager. Last night while I was busy building a smoothwall an error popped up telling me something failed and then the "place holders", for lack of a better term, for all of my open programs disappeared. I know I should have written the error message down, but I was chest deep into the smoothwall and people kept bugging me on my phone. All of my shortcut icons, time, update icon, gnome menu, etc are still functioning. Now when I open a program it doesn't show a "place holder" on the bar. I can still alt-tab between programs. I have restarted the computer a few times. I even tried switching between Gnome and KDE to see if that would work. If anyone can answer this question I'd be very happy.

Did it come back when you rebooted X..? If you haven't rebooted yet, try Ctrl+Alt+Backspace

Just right click on the bar and add it back. Its one of the items that you can add.

I did this myself and it worked like a charm..

Thanks...I feel really stupid now (lack of sleep related due to the smoothwall)...adding it back worked (right click bar-->Add to panel-->Utility-->Window List). The other suggestion Ctrl-Alt-Backspace for restarting X didn't work but is very useful to know. Also helpful to know is Ctrl-Alt-F1 and then to get back Ctrl-Alt-F7. It still bothers me that the Window List disappeared to begin with. Thanks for all your help!
