I just installed Fedora and had what appeared to be 2 panels showing so clicked on one 2 hide it, now I can't see anything on the other panel.
If I move my mouse over the panel I see:
my name
the date
a note pad which disappers when I move the mouse over it and thats it.
Sometimes when i point my mouse at them they disappear as well.
How can I get my panel back ?
I thought maybe adding an application to the desk top to open a terminal session would be a good way to start, but i don't know where or what the command is for this. (I did mange to set one up so I could start Firefox).
If I Open a terminal session then what do i do to get my panel back ?
this will restart the panel(s)
If you remove all the hidden "dot" files relating to gnome ( .gnome .gnome2 .gnome2_private etc) then if you log out and back in, all your panels (and desktop settings) will go back to the defaults.
Ok thanks for that, but I cannot open a terminal session to be able to do this, as I cannot open the panel.
How can I create a shortcut on my desktop to do this ?
Use Alt-F2 and enter gnome-terminal in the box, or use Alt-F1 to get the menu.
I have tried Alt-F1 and Alt-F2 Plus all combinations of Shift-F(1-12), Cntrl-F(1-12) and Alt-F(1-12) and the only response I got was on Alt-F12 which gave me the Notes which is the only thiong visible on me Desktop.
I will try a reboot and see if that works
Simply add the number 3 to the end of the boot options from the grub menu and log into the console. Delete the gnome files from your user account as I described then reboot or issue the command telinit 5.
Thanks for all those that replied, but I have now reinstalled, and have everything back.
I was lucky that I had not actually started any additionall setups and hadn't created any data so to re-install was very simple, thanks to the easiness off Fedora.
