So a friend of mine offered me too good a deal on a SP3 to pass up. Comes with the type cover, USB/ethernet adapter, DVI/VGA/HDMI adapter, pen, and docking station. I'm currently working away from home, so finally got around to trying to make everything work (or nearly everything, I don't care about the accelerometer). I got the pen working so I can right click with it, now trying to get multitouch to work. Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to get it working? I read the Archwiki, but the patch won't apply (I'm assuming because it was written for 4.3 and current in F23 is 4.4.8). Thanks!

Yup, that's the patch I was referencing that I can't get to apply. I actually found it's because the kernel sources don't include the drivers that it's looking for to patch, and I have no desire to compile a completely custom kernel. Oh well. Overall, I think the SP3 is a great toy. And possibly the best ever Windows device I've ever used (using it right now). But not surprisingly, it still has too much to get working in linux so I'm thinking I might just get rid of it. Given the price I got it for, I'll probably still come out ahead.

Gotcha...wasn't sure if that was the same one or not. But if most everything is working except multi-touch, that's not bad. And I realize you're after Fedora, but have you considered another distro??? From what I've read (because I, too, have considered getting one) Ubuntu and openSUSE are both pretty well supported on that device.

OpenSuse requires adding too many 3rd party repositories to get the programs I like. Last time I used it I had I think 6 repositories to get it running adequately for me, and this OF COURSE ended up eventually corrupting the install.

I've considered throwing Debian testing on (since it actually has a newer kernel than Fedora (4.5.? vs. 4.4.9)), but in the past Fedora always supported hardware before Debian (based on multiple chromebooks and new touchpads on laptops), so I'm not confident that would work. I also would be willing to try Mageia 6, but based on my attempt to install that to my new 1020 G1, I'm not sure Mageia 6 preview actually installs a bootloader in UEFI mode (didn't on the 1020 at least).

Ubuntu is just...probably not. I might try Kubuntu, but knowing it's Ubuntu really turns me off. It's too bad that Ubuntu is the most popular, because I really dislike it.

I've simply gotten too spoiled by the last few years of things just working. The 1020 with Debian actually has issues with the touchpad, then this doens't work. I'm actually surprised. I bought a Latitude E5450 the moment they were released, and not a single thing on it didn't work out of the box in Debian. Same with the E7440 a year or so earlier. With Chromebooks, it required some work to get everything working with Fedora or Debian, but both worked just fine once I took the time to get them working. This is the first time in a LONG time that I'm completely stumped on how to get something working in linux, which anymore seems weird to me. Guess I've been spoiled by the hardware I had chosen in the past.

In the end, I'll continue using the SP3 with Windows at least until the strike ends, and maybe purchase a Latitude E7470 to replace it (along with the 1020, which I'm sure I can get the touchpad working once I have more than 1 day to try). Only bad thing about my current predicament of filling in for striking workers, I've got a LOT more income than normal (doing 30 hours OT a week), and nothing to spend it on (I'm on the opposite side of the country as my wife and friends), so after work ebay calls my name.
