hi, i ran preupgrade. the program said it needed to reboot to finish the upgrade process. so in grub i selected the 'update to fedora 12 (constantine)' boot option.
it proceeded to complete the upgrade but then i hit this error:
Quote:
there was an error running your transaction for the following reason(s): insufficient disk space.
you need more space on the following file systems:
1 M on /mnt/sysimage/boot
does anyone know how i can finish the upgrade of fedora-12 now ?
My F11 installs defaulted to a 200M /boot partition. Grub would not use ext4 so /boot needed to be ext3 and is kept separate. I too saw the space problem during updates to F12. Instead of playing with the space problem I decided to re-install making the /boot partition 1G. With 500Gb HD's, putting aside 1Gb was not a waste of space for me at the time. Just FYI, the default /boot in F13 is now 500M and is able to use /ext4. The need for a separate /boot is now debatable, but I still keep it. I may change my thinking about this in the future. If /boot was contained in the root partition, there would be no need to worry about space while doing upgrades.
Now, considering Fedora is a test base for RedHat, and RedHat is mostly an enterprise level distro, the defaults (like lvm for example, and SELinux) will remain because they are important for enterprise level deployments. So, I have about a page and a half of setup rules/changes that I make when I do a fresh install of Fedora that make it more desktop friendly for me. I start by using the custom partitioning option when I'm setting up my HD.
Fedora, for me, is a great distro, but, like any other distro, it takes a while to get used to customizing it for your own use.
