Thought my problem only involved starting wine, --

But I started open office for the first time the other day and had the same problem when I shut down.

Everything works fine untill the shutdown button is pressed, then icons disappear, keyboard goes dead, but mouse remains active and desktop wall paper is still displayed.

Only way to shutdown then is the power button. But if I type "poweroff" instead of using the shutdown button, the same sypmtons occur, but after normal delay computer does turn off.

wine had been unistalled, so that wasn't the cause this time.

I'm reasonably up to date, (latest office and X11, can't keep up with my limited data downloads).

I've installed a basic version of FC6 off the DVD and that also has the problem.

Latest Mepis and FC4 are also on this computer and work fine.

Any thoughts, hints or ideas would be very welcome.
