same problem with open office and konqueror

i just installed red hat 9 about two weeks ago. i've got everything up and running the way i want, except for one thing. when i open any open office program (editor, spreadsheet, etc.) or when i try to view web pages in konqueror, the contents of the window are so large that a few words literally take up the whole screen - you can imagine how much scrolling i have to do to see the entire screen. i'm not having this problem anywhere else on the system, just in open office and konqueror. i can view files and browse my machine with konqueror with no problem, it's the web pages that are giving me problems. any kind souls out there got any idea what the problem might be?

In konqueror, Check "Settings->Configure Konqueror"
see entries for "Appearance" and "fonts" for any unusual entries.
