FC3 Modem does not hang up

I am not ashamed to admit it... I am a Linux newbie.
I have recently installed FC3 and all has gone very well with exception of one small glitch.

While everything seems to be installed ok and runs very well, something is screwy with my modem.
It is an ISA modem, and not a winmodem, and it works fine when I boot into Windows.

The problem... when booting into Linux the phone line is opened. Even before I go to connect to the internet the modem is receiving a dialtone. I can still connect (if I do it quickly enough before the dial tone is lost) and it goes online just fine, but when I dosconnect it still does not hang up. When I disconnect I can hear a click from the modem and my internet connection is lost, but it does not release the line. I have to reach around and unplug the phone line from my modem every time.

I am not sure how else to describe it. My modem init string is blank... I thought that midht have something to do with it... but then I realized it wouldn't since the line is opened on booting. The modem is not set to dial on bootup and doesn't attempt to... the line is just open.

Being a newbie I don't know where to look for relevant config files. I am probably savvy enough to fix it if I can just find out where to look... the file system is still funny looking to me

Thanks for any ideas!

The graphical dialler tool just runs "wvdial" (which a command-line utility) on your behalf. You can manually run wvdial on the command-line.

Also, take a look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts for a file with "ppp" in the name (e.g. ifup-ppp0). This will be the configuration for your modem.

If you're stuck, post back with the messages that wvdial produces.
