Hello,

Could you explain in better detail for us what you are trying to accomplish? I am trying to follow what you are saying, but I can not figure it out.

Cheers,

Josh

I know it is there....
It is located within your home directory. For example, on my system:
Code:
/home/casper/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

Only drives or folders too? If folders also open with vlc, then open nautilus, then right click on any folder and select "open with other application". Then select "open folder" from the list, or may be "file manager".

Edit that file, and make it reflect the following:
Code:
video/x-msvideo=vlc.desktop;
video/x-matroska=vlc.desktop;
text/plain=userapp-vim-H9V11V.desktop;
inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop;
Cheers,

Josh

No problem! I wonder why this has been an issue for many users in the past..... I might file a bug report on the gnome bug tracker website. Anyways.... Mark your thread as solved using the thread tools, located at the top of the page. Thanks!

Cheers,

Josh

I don't think that this is a bug so much a a feature that is implemented in a non-intuitive way. It's easy to set drives to be opened by vlc (or any other media player) the first time you insert a disk in your optical drive. Changing that association later can be a bit more tricky.

At least, that's been my experience.

I know what you are talking about, but I am referring to something different. Sometimes, all mime types get overwritten, causing a lot of problems.
