acpi battey problem

I am having trouble with my battery. When i log on with kde on battery power it automaticaly logs off my user. This makes me very mad. I think i dont have acpi enabled. I have tried adding acpi=on in my grub.conf but i am still experiencing the same problem. In gnomeit doesn't log off but it does say that the battery is low(even though it says battery is at 100%)
Am i missing something obvious?
