wireless card in sarge

I am having a pretty good time setting up debian on an older laptop (thinkpad pII 233). Little issues here and there have popped up but I have gotten them all fixed other then this wireless car problem I can't solve. I have two cards, one is a standard orinoco gold, the other a linksys card. The linksys card lights up when I put it in (both are pcmcia), the orinoco card shows no lights at all. I have tried drivers from modconf but doesn't seem to work, iwconfig give me "no wireless extensions." I have been all over the interface and wireless.opts files to no avail. I am on the latest kernel, which doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas?

With the Proxim Gold Cards, it all depends on the chipset. If you have a newer version (with the waving guy on it), then this might help: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...17#post1226217

Following the above, I was able to get the card working on open networks, but I still haved been able to get it to accept a WEP key.

ya i guess mine is the newer one. that guide looks like exactly what i need expect for this line "Oh, and none of this works with kernel 2.6, so don't waste your time. You need kernel 2.4." I am using 2.6.

If you manage to get it working with the newer kernel I would like to know how. Good luck!

You could install an older kernel and just boot into that one when you want wireless, but that might not be what you are looking for.

I can't seem to find any reference to any working drivers under 2.6. I guess that card is going to be shelved for right now. I will go back to working on the linksys card in the meantime.
