when will fglrx-driver come to wheezy repo? does catalyst 12.8 work yet?

Hi, as you may know fgrlx-driver was removed late last year (?) from Debian wheezy (testing) repos when they upgraded xorg to 1.11.

I know that as of May this year, the ati catalyst executable scripts were not working with debian wheezy.

Sid has 12.6 version (June 12 version) of catalyst, but that driver is yet to be moved to testing. Since then, AMD released August 12 version (12.8). Has anyone tested this .run script yet, especially 64 bit? does it work?

I can't do too much testing because it's not my system, but I would like to give it a go if anyone's had encouraging results from 12.8 or 12.6 (point update) versions.

Fglrx 12.6 and later is compatible with xorg 1.12.
However, ati dropped its support for cards 2xxx, 3xxx and 4xxx from 12.6, turning all of them to fglrx-legacy.
But, there is also a 12.6-beta for those cards that includes xorg 1.12 support, here

Hi, thank you for your reply. Does it mean that I can now safely try the off-repository installation of 12.6? Any idea why it's not made it into the repos even after nearly three months? There might be something missing?

12.6 is in Testing

Package fglrx-driver
wheezy (testing) (x11): non-free ATI/AMD RadeonHD display driver [non-free]
1:12-6+point-1: amd64 i386
sid (unstable) (x11): non-free ATI/AMD RadeonHD display driver [non-free]
1:12-6+point-1: amd64 i386

Package libgl1-fglrx-glx
wheezy (testing) (libs): proprietary libGL for the non-free ATI/AMD RadeonHD display driver [non-free]
1:12-6+point-1: amd64 i386
sid (unstable) (libs): proprietary libGL for the non-free ATI/AMD RadeonHD display driver [non-free]
1:12-6+point-1: amd64 i386

For 12.8 either download it directly from AMD or give smxi/sgfxi a try.

Yes indeed. I noticed today, though haven't had time to check performance. Thank you.
