I just upgraded my system from Dapper drake to Edgy. To my surprise, the default Edgy ati driver 8.28.8 works better than what I experienced before. I have a Thinkpad T43p with an ati FireGL V3200 mobility card. In dapper drake I tried every ati driver available, however, my graphics card seemed not to be accelerated at all. This time, I feel happy about that.

Then I tried to install the latest driver 8.31.5, but the same problem appears again as before. No acceleration of my graphics card in any 3D applications, except fgl_glxgears. This is really weird. In my VTK applications, sometimes there are even crashes. I have no idea about how this' gonna happen always. Anybody here has the same problem? Thank you for your help in advance to solve such a problem.

There is no fix that I know of. The next major release Fiesty Fawn (7.04) is supposed to allow for hardware acceleration but the drivers you get from the Ubuntu repos now don't work properly.
