Upgrade kernel from 2.2 to 2.4

How to upgrade the kernel from 2.2 to 2.4 by apt-get?
I use the Debian 3.0.

I can't even get X windows working but have you tried?

apt-cache search kernel-image-2.4

to see which ones are availible???

Then run:

apt-get install <whatever one you want>

When I do it, I get a few obscure questions about 'initrd.img'... somebody else will have to clarify that for you.
