trouble umounting with LABEL=label in fstab

I'm having trouble umounting partitions. This is
the entry I have in /etc/fstab for backup:
LABEL=backup /mnt/backup ext3 noauto 0 0

I can mount it ok:
Debian:~# mount LABEL=backup

but can't umount it:
Debian:~# umount LABEL=backup
umount: LABEL=backup: not found

Thanks

You should be able to umount using either the filesystem name or the mount point. So try this:

umount /mnt/backup

That works, but why will Label=backup work with mounting, but
not with umounting; this doesn't make sense to me?

Thanks

Do a `df -h`, and look at the entry. Take the entire first column and try to umount that. You might have to enclose it in quotes or double quotes, so something like:

umount "LABEL=backup"

I also use the `umount mount_point` technique with nfs mounts. It's easier than trying something like `umount 192.168.1.2:/some Weird Share with $p3c1@l characters and spaces!!!`
