Heya guys
well here is my strange situation. After a fresh installation of Debian Squeeze i was always got a blank screen when gdm was loading and i had to restart. The second time it boot is working properly, after restart.
Then i ve installed Nvidia drivers, i thought it has to be related but still the problem occurs. Every time i start the machine(after is closed) it gives me a blank screen. Then i push the reset button, it starts over and finally works.
What the heck??
Have you ever seen this before? Is there a way to see my previous boot log messages?
maybe you mean /var/log/dmesg, /var/log/dmesg.0 for current and previous boot.
but they didn't show me nothing usefull.
Then i looked at /var/log/gdm3/:0.log and :0.log.1 where i found something strange. The :0.log.1 is stopping unexpectedly at the command

Rep:
The gdm3 logs were what I meant. Just looked like the place to look for your type of problem.
I have mine from 4:30 this morning. I am running testing with the Liquorix kernel so that is different but we both run gdm3 and should go through the same hoops there. Maybe a comparison will give some info.
I am not sure where in that file yours stopped. Mine is 586 lines long so have not studied it in depth.
What line does yours end on?
What is being referred to in the lines above what you quoted that is not video related or at least not nvidia related (I use an ati card)?
I also do not have a gpu on my card. The fglrx driver is the main theme, along with the mouse and power buttons, in that log. It would be nice to know where yours ended in relation to my file.
i m examining these two but i cant find something usefull. take a look.
thats the first boot where always crashes.

i am focusing on the first (WW) of the first file where is saying about screen's EDID!
Don't you have a xorg.conf file? I would try to create one setting your monitor resolution, so xorg always picks the right one. Have a look at this, I think it's somehow related to your problem (you could try using the xorg.conf file posted there, changing the modeline and refresh rates to the ones your monitor really uses, and see how it goes).
Regards.
EDIT: I forgot, I would try with and without this line Option "UseEdidFreqs" "true", since it might or might not work.

/var/log/boot has to be enabled by editing /etc/default/bootlogd and replacing the no with yes. The reason it not enabled by default is it will slow your boot down some but it is worth a try to solve this problem.
It looked to me like X was crashing on glx as that was the next thing to load, that's just a guess.
Another place to look would be ~/youruser/.xsession-errors.
Distribution: Debian Wheezy, Jessie, Sid/Experimental, playing with LFS.

Have you tried nomodeset in Grub? if not boot your machine, highlight the kernel you want to boot from, hit "e" so you can edit that line and follow the instructions that you read in the link I posted and type in nomodeset or what is in the instructions for your hardware into the line. This is a non permanent method to see if it works so try it a few times.
