Installed squeeze a couple of days ago having got the idea it was very stable. Sound problems: Most obvious: no sound with adobe flash player. However the kde signature tune plays when kde starts.
Don't know if these relevant but: cannot remove tvcard module because it is 'in use', saa7134. And if run 'alsamixer' it always starts with the saa7143 tv card - in the past it would always start with the USB sound card.
Struggling a bit. Perhaps if could just loose the tv card altogether temporarily and see what happened??
haow did you install the flash player?i had debian for 7 years and i newr used adobe flash.
debian and iceweasel work great with mplayer browser plugin
It could be that the alsa default sound system is not correct.
To specify a different default device, create a file /etc/asound.conf with this contents:
Code:
pcm.!default {
type hw
card Headset
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card Headset
}
Replace headset with the card you want to be the default. Get the name of the cards with cat /proc/asound/cards
jlinkels
Thanks. Did that and now have sound with adobe flash player. So that's amazing. However it will not work, flash player, with Iceweasel i.e. firefox - this happened before, but only recently - but only works with Epiphany.
I get this odd thing:
Code:
lugo@fido:~$ alsamixer
cannot open mixer: No such device
The whole thing is a bit odd, unDebiany - it won't reliably do what it's told.
Thanks odinlzs. Don't understand: You mean you may play stuff from youtube.com or BBC.co.uk iplayer using mplayer? If so I'd prefer to do it that way.

Partly solved problem. Simply removed /etc/asound.conf and the default card, it may be more important that it is card 0 don't know, remained the USB card built into the mother board - the one it should be. In the abcence of the aforementioned file 'alsamixer' works.
I have a stupid resolve for my ASUS M4A79 mainboard. I just typed the code below and flash brought the sound back. It applies also when sometime sound didn't work because of multi sound hardware. My system is with Ubuntu, Debian Squeeze and Lenny. So I think the resolve is platform dependent, as long as your system use Alsa.
$ sudo alsactl init
Unknown hardware: "HDA-Intel" "Realtek ALC1200" "HDA:10ec0888,10438357,00100101" "0x1043" "0x8357"
Hardware is initialized using a guess method
More in detail,
$ less /proc/asound/cards
0 [SB ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB
HDA ATI SB at 0xfbcf8000 irq 16
1 [HDMI ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI HDMI
HDA ATI HDMI at 0xfbffc000 irq 19
