If you install the kernel, and initrd, and the config files, and /sbin/lilo, you can name it whatever you want.

wich installed and updated grup automaticaly.
do I need to do more?

Well, the config file would be for grub, where you have to specify the kernel. Your initrd should be okay, based on what you did. So I'd guess you're okay all around. You can test it by rebooting, though of course it's always wise to have a reliable fallback option.

Are you referring to /boot/grub/grub.conf? It's been /boot/grub/menu.lst for some time.
