QXcbConnection: Could not connect to display

Using Debian Jessie

After years of running the following shell script to create a terminal on my desktop with another user, suddenly I can no longer connect to X when I use it, and get the error response in the subject line. I'm not sure exactly when this happened. I did a apt-get update/upgrade sequence recently, and a lot was updated. So it was probably that. I do notice that the environment doesn't have "display" set, and there are probably others that I'd have to do a one-by-one comparison to discover. But doing all that wouldn't really tell me what happened, or what to do to fix it. Any ideas?

musem.sh:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
ssh -l mythtv -X -v musem
