"Pipe delivery post timed out?"

I'm using Debian Sarge with the following email setup.
Mail travels in the following way

My pop account >>> fetchmail >>> procmail >>> spamassassin >>> procmail >>> exim >>> spool >>> sylpheed-claws

(at least I think that's what it's doing).

Everything works fine, but if I switch my computer off (which is normally when I go away for a few days) it seems that my exim starts spitting out messages to people or lists that have sent me emails.

They normally go something like:

Quote:
To: suse-linux-uk-schools-return-5391-me=mydomain.co.uk@suse.com
Subject: Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender
Message-Id: <E1ADBIr-0001ax-00@debian>
Date: Sat, 25 Oct 2003 00:25:09 +0100

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software (Exim).

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

adam@localhost
pipe delivery process timed out

------ This is a copy of the message, including all the headers. ------

Return-path: <suse-linux-uk-schools-return-5391-me=myddomain.co.uk@suse.com>
Received: from debian
([127.0.0.1] helo=localhost ident=adam)
by debian with esmtp (Exim 3.36 #1 (Debian))
id 1ADALW-0001K6-00
for <adam@localhost>; Fri, 24 Oct 2003 23:23:50 +0100
Is exim returning them because the original date that header is much older than when exim handles it? Is it possible to configure this to allow for a longer duration?

thanks in advance.

First look at the
discussion in the exim mailing list. There seems to be an other person having same kind of problems.

The toolchain is probably something like
fetchmail << pop account
fetchmail >> localhost:smtp
exim << localhost:smtp
|> procmail |> spamassassin
procmail <| spamassassin
exim <| procmail
exim >> spool

The broken pipe is probably because spamassassin takes too long while figuring out wether it is spam or not.
