Nvidia Drivers

I recently install debian 3.1 srage on a toshiba satallite. I'm am a noob at linux. I managed to get the x-window-system installed and fluxbox going. My question is: How do I install the Nvidia driver? I have the .run file saved on cd. I know that the x-server cannot be running for installation. Is there anyway i can run the installer from cd in terminal?

Installing nvidia drivers is not hard at all. There are a couple of links that I'm posting that will lead you through the process. The first one is in the "Linux Wiki" section that is here on LQ and the other one are the directions from the nvidia website. Good luck, reading through both of these tutorials should put you well on your way to installing nvidia drivers.

Those instructions don't apply overly well to Debian. Sure if one has enough experience one knows what differs (e.g. Debian doesn't use the runlevels in the same way as many other distros do) but if one is at that point one is in no much need for instructions.

I have written some instructions regarding the installation of the NVIDIA proprietary display drivers on Debian.
Debian NVIDIA proprietary display driver installation
Both the method of using NVIDIA's installer and through Debian's Apt sources are brought up.
