Angry Mouse Problem (searched in the forum)


Hello
I just installed debian few days ago and i have a mosue problem
when i issue cat /dev/psaux i see all kinds of garbage when i mov emy mouse and after and it starts working in X i dont have gpm installed.
How can i make my mouse automatically start whithout using cat /dev/psaux

Try editing you mouse config and use the Protocol ImPS/2

That's right, ps/2 mice work better with IMPS/2.

Tried IMPS/2

The mouse jumps all over the screen with IMPS/2 Protocol. Mouse doesn't start by itself only after i issue cat /dev/psaux
Any idia why is that?

Just a casual observation; you are using the nvidia driver and you should have removed dri and GLcore under the modules section of XF86Config-4. Could you give some detail on the mouse you are using.

logitech mouse

it is a logitech mouse with USB to PS/2 converter it has a wheel no other fancy buttons nothing like that. I even tried regular ps/2 mouse same story.

Sounds like a delay in the signals coming from the mouse possibly because of the adapter. Can you use the mouse as a USB device? If you can and you have a std woody install then as root (su) do modconf go down to usb devices and install usbcore and hid support. Then do dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86. You might also consider doing apt-get install hotplug. There is also a good howto on usb here
