Login problem

Hello,

I have a strange problem:

Sometimes after logout from one user (in order to switch to another user) it takes a long time to login. Just like the gdm get stuck... it doesn't let you enter name or password or do it extreemly slow.

There is a computing task (movie encoding) that usually run with nice priority (10). It happens very rare ant it is hard to recreate, but when it happens it is very annoying. So probably it might heppen when it dosn't run also...

Usually after I log out back - to switch to original user it doesn't heppen...

What is the possible reason? And how to resolve it?

Updated GDM - doesn't solve

Thanks

Sounds like it might be something where its not closing the x session for the first user but I am not sure. So this happens when you try to have a second user log on? So if you log in with user A, then log out, you have problems logging into B? But if you restarted now, and try to log on with B, its fine? And logging out of B and then into A causes problems again? Or is it just user B thats causing problems to log in? Ahh, I can't even understand what I just asked

Actually at some point when you get back to gdm I observe slow reaction and problems with logging in. However I usually manage to login (without reboot)... When I log out sometime it continue to have similar problem sometimes not...

It might disappear after some time...

I usually run user l and for user a or user v I relog because user l runs usually aMule... And heavy encoding process with low priority in background so I can log out without stopping this encoding process...

At some point when I try to logout from l and login to a or v I observe that gdm reacts very slow... when I go to command prompt in text mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and run top I can find only the low priority (+10) process eating CPU and nothing other that might slow down the gdm...
Same problem might be observed when returning from user v or a to l

I usually do not have to reboot I manage to login, also restarting GDM doesn't help, I've also tried to upgrade GDM same result.

After some time it continue to work normally... without any visible reason...

This happens very rare and usually works without problems even with heavy encoding running... So it is very hard to recreate the problem...

Same thing where observed sometimes when running Applications > System Tools > New Login from Gnome menu in order to log as different user.

If someone can give me suggestion what to look and how to diagnose the problem it will be very helpful.
