Is there a better flash player?

Well I've finally made the switch from windows. So far I've got everything setup how I like it, but Flash in Icewasel is lame! First I get the big play button when I just want the video/app/whatever to play/load and also its really buggy on youtube. The volume control doesn't work and sometimes the videos are just unresponsive to controls like moving the time line.

So can i apt-get something to replace this? Or can I just get normal firefox on here with the standard flash player?

I'm using Debian Lenny 5.0.1 installed from the XFCE-LXDE cd.

You might have to modify your sources.list but once you get the right repos you can just do:
apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Then you will have regular Adobe flash installed. Also, iceweasel is just firefox under a different name.... something about licensing...

1. In iceweaser open the Tools->Add-ons menu item and click on the Plugins tab.
2. Scroll up or down until you find the Shock Flash plugin.
3. Look at what version you have.
4. If it's not 10.0 r22 then you don't have the latest version.
Cheers,
jdk

Sounds like you have the libswfdec rather than the flashplugin-nonfree. Remove the annoyingly broken libswfdec and install flashplugin-nonfree.

I've brought this in from Debian and from Adobe and it seems to consist of empty directories for various browsers and one /install_flash_player_10_linux/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so. It looks as if it should more or is this a codec for all seasons?

libflashplayer.so is the plugin for flash. You need to remove any competing plugins and install it by putting it into the appropriate directory depending on whether you want it system-wide or just for one user. Then restart your browser and it should start working.

In debian it is easiest to use flashplugin-nonfree especially if using 64bit distro, if running 32 bit flashplugin-nonfree or a direct download from adobes site for the flashplugin installer and using that is easiest.

If you haven't fixed it yet, you might want to look at this. It helped me.

No audios work for me since 'upgrade' to Squeeze and KDE4 and chasing that hungarian site for windows-compatible codecs. All the freedom of configuration that I liked about KDE has gone too and that is just as true of other GUIs like XFCE. If anybody knows how to restore audio codecs under KDE4 even when some other desktop is in use, please let ne know, As far as I am concerned, this is a half-finished project that wrecked what was working before to provide what was not wanted and has not been completed. It's like the way Windows XP got rid of everything that was good about '98 and introduced nothing of any use.
