Installing GLIB 2.6.2 over 2.0

Hello

I'm a linux n00b and I'm having a hard time upgrading glib-2.0 to 2.6.2 library.

I ran the GLIB-2.6.2's ./configure, make, make install which reported no error.

But, when trying to install the ATK lib (ATK-.1.9.0), I got an error :

Code:
root@libranet:# ./configure
Code:
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for GLIB - version >= 2.5.7...
*** 'pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0' returned 2.6.2, but GLIB (2.2.3)
*** was found! If pkg-config was correct, then it is best
*** to remove the old version of GLib. You may also be able to fix the error
*** by modifying your LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable, or by editing
*** /etc/ld.so.conf. Make sure you have run ldconfig if that is
*** required on your system.
*** If pkg-config was wrong, set the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH
*** to point to the correct configuration files
no
configure: error:
*** GLIB 2.5.7 or better is required. The latest version of
*** GLIB is always available from ****. If GLIB is installed
*** but not in the same location as pkg-config add the location of the file
*** glib-2.0.pc to the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH.
What should I do to make it work ??

Thank you very much for the help you would like to give me

Why don't you upgrade it with apt-get?

You should really look into apt-get cause it makes debian a lot easier updated. Also you probably won't get into dependency hell either.
