how to get Alcatel speedtouch modem work under Debian Sarge ?

Hello,
I have been using Debian for quite some time. My main
problem is getting internet connction using the
Alcatel ADSL Speedtouch modem (330) work. I tried several times
without success.
In my computer I installed both Debian Sarge 2.6x and
Debian Etch 2.15x kernels.
whenever I need to work under Debian, I have to go to
an internet cafe to use their LAN. That is holding me
from achieving the work I intend to do, which is
translating Debian to my national languge (wolof).
Please is someone can give me any help, I will really
appreciate it.
Thanks.

If you're using Debian with a 2.6 kernel it should be quite similar to Ubuntu so this page might help http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/ubuntu/index.html
Is your kernel newer than 2.6.10? The first step is to prepare the firmware with the firmware-extractor http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/...ware-extractor and put the speedtch-{1,2}.bin files in /lib/hotplug/firmware
Let me know how you get on b3nt@ukonline.co.uk

I have followed the instructions provided in the link you gave, but wiith no success.
I tried them several times with both 2.6.8-1 and 2.15.
when the system boots it displays a message saying something like: FIRMWARE_FILE Undefined.

Make sure you have copied your firmware to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware, then run:
modprobe speedtch
dmesg | tail -n 50
post the output

After using the firware-extractor, I copied both files speedtch-1.bin and speedtch-2.bin in the /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware folder.
The commnad :
modprobe speedtch
gave no output while the second:
dmesg | tail -n 50
gave the following:
