Hi,
Does anyone know how to set up which kernel modules are loaded at boot time on a Debian system? I thought that this was controlled only by /etc/modules and /etc/modules.conf, but after ages tinkering with /etc/modules.conf I found that the changes I was making weren't actually affecting anything. In exasperation I renamed the file, and rebooted, to find that again, nothing was changed.
When I type 'lsmod' there are loads of modules loaded that I didn't ask for in either /etc/modules or /etc/modules.conf. So, my question is... how the hell did they get there? Does anyone know?
Failing that, does anyone know the whereabouts of any good documentation on the subject of loading modules at boot time; I can't seem to find any.
Help is much appreciated.
I'm running kernel version 2.6.12.1, compiled following the very helpful tutorial at
