Looks like the gnome integration-plug-in is not installed:-

Code:
$ apt list cairo-dock-*-integration-plug-in
Listing... Done
cairo-dock-gnome-integration-plug-in/stable 3.4.1-1 amd64
cairo-dock-kde-integration-plug-in/stable 3.4.1-1 amd64
cairo-dock-xfce-integration-plug-in/stable 3.4.1-1 amd64

7845:~$ dpkg -L cairo-dock-gnome-integration-plug-in
dpkg-query: package 'cairo-dock-gnome-integration-plug-in' is not installed
Use dpkg --info (= dpkg-deb --info) to examine archive files,
and dpkg --contents (= dpkg-deb --contents) to list their contents.
7845:~$
Do you think, Myk267 installing the cairo dock-gnome plug in could break the Mate DE?

I'm going to say that I don't have reason to believe it would break Mate. No guarantees.

The worst is that a few options only in cairo-dock wouldn't work, like: logout, shutdown, lockscreen, show system monitor. If you never use cairo-dock to try to do those things, you wouldn't notice that they fail to do anything.

For now I'm just sitting back contemplating on if I want to install the gnome plug in or not.

Thanks for your time and help.

Installing the gnome integration plug-in was a success and the /home directory launches properly from the cairo dock. I can access any directory I want to now.

Use stace to find out a lot of things. It's a good debugging tool. It just doesn't reveal output for launching isses with the cairo dock.
