Grub question, wrong menu.lst on boot

Hello!

I have a strange problem on my bootable usb. When i boot from the usb grub is loaded but is showing the menu.lst that is on my ubuntu partition.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Why isnt it using the one in usb:/boot/grub/#menu.lst?

Best regards
Mattias

Because you told it to do something else.
Computers are merely (very) fast idiots - no judgement, just obedience. How did you create the boot record on the USB ???.
In detail.

Hello!

root@mattias-laptop:/etc/# cp /boot/grub/* /full_OS/boot/grub/
root@mattias-laptop:/etc/# cd /full_OS/boot/grub/
root@mattias-laptop:/full_OS/boot/grub/# gedit menu.lst

// ---------------------------------------

default 0

title Robot OS
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.8-3-386 root=/dev/hda1 ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.8-3-386
quiet
savedefault
boot

// Save and close

root@mattias-laptop:/full_OS/etc/mkinitrd/# grub-install --root-directory=/stripped_OS/ --no-floppy /dev/sda

also:

grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
(hd0,1)
(hd1,0)

grub> root (hd1,0)

grub> setup (hd1)
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd1)"... 15 sectors are embedded.
succeeded
Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd1) (hd1)1+15 p (hd1,0)/boot/grub/stage2 /boot/grub/menu.lst"... succeeded
Done.

grub>

This is about it.

Regards
Mattias

What is this ???
Code:
--root-directory=/stripped_OS/
Seems you are planning on using the USB to boot the hard disk - is this your real intent ???.

Please don't add (significant) info to an earlier post - it confuses things, and may get missed altogether.
Those (native) grub commands look like they should do the job.
Let me go find a (working) test box so I can try the same - non-Debian as it turns out, but that shouldn't matter in the broader context.

Sorry, I was going to try on the weekend, but got sidetracked. Happens when you're on-call. Hang in there.
