How to login as a root user i suse
yes, i am a newb, please tell me how to login to suse as a root user?

Well, from the main login page, simply type "root" for username and the password when it asks for the password. If you have already logged in as a non-root user, you can simply bring up a terminal (like Konsole) and type in "su" (which stands for substitute user) and when it asks for the password, type in the root password.

/boot/grub/menu.lst and /boot/grub/device.map

even after typing in the pass word for super user mode
i am stil deined access to /boot/grub/menu.lst and /boot/grub/device.map
can some one please help

Which access do you need?

i need to read than write, i need to fix my grub,

I have merged two your threads from Newbie. In the future please don't post multiple times about the same problem -- it's hard to follow them to see what's going on.
Your problem may be that the main partition is mounted in read-only mode. Run 'mount' command. What do you get?

In fact, it wasn't. I had to browse through 3 thread to find out you're not booting in the normal way and read-only mount may be the case. Have you checked 'mount'?
