good resource for upgrading hardware?

What's a good resource for upgrading hardware? I mean, if I wanted to change my video card, motherboard, pci card, what would be a good reference for figuring out how to do this in Debian? The idea is to avoid reinstalling OS.

I think it kinda just searches for hardware at the beginning of every boot, so you could probably just upgrade the stuff and it would still work, you might have to install some drivers but that is about it...

I've never done it before though, so that might be completely wrong.
