Looking for a good DDNS resource

Hello everyone. I'm not the type of person to ask others to do my work for me unless I've exhausted all other resources.

However, I'm looking for a good resource to look up configuration, compatability, requirements, etc... for ddns on redhat. If anyone knows a good location please let me know.

http://www.technopagan.org/dynamic/

Care to tell wut ur Infrastructure is ?

My server have 2 NIC, a registered domain, a dynamic IP, sharing Internet to LAN, .. Maybe we can help each other, am also about to configure mine ..

Am considering on which DDNS / public DNS service to use (hn.org , granitecanyon.com: provide free services for domain caching ) ..

Thank you linuxJaver appreciate the response. I'll be spending some time researching that site (haven't looked at it yet i just got up =)

The architecture that is currently in place is pretty archaic which I'm trying to change and bring new things in to make life easier. We're currently running rh 7.3 but are upgrading to 9.0 in the coming 2 months. I'm pretty limited in the amount of architecture changes I can make without incorporating the developer of the application we use.

Basically we have several different things in place. The main one I'm concerned about running ddns is for a fly away suite. They've been using the hosts file for name resolution along with static IP's for the last 5 years. Limiting centralized administration.

Running a mobile suite my plan is to incorporate ddns and dhcp to limit the number of problems with people incorrectly configuring the clients as well as giving a central point for administration. There are also modifications that need to be made depending on the environment that we take the suite to (i.e. IP addr changes). Centralizing this will help significantly with the initial setup.

Coming from a windows environment as a sysadmin it's been a breath of fresh air to actually work with linux in a production environment and increasing my skills.

A little long winded (sorry). I can start posting information as it's gathered to help others if there's interest....

I think this is what your looking for. Has a simple set of instrustructions for building the keys and configuring the server.

http://ops.ietf.org/dns/dynupd/secure-ddns-howto.html

I used to have a link to a webpage with how to secure and lock down named but I've lost it some how.

Redhat seams to make minor changes to bind and dhcp that make them more stable but you lose some functionality. But other wise that link proabbly has more then enough to get you going.

Afaik, DNS sybtax is related to the software or version of bind used, thefore whether u use rh 7.3 or 9 it is likely transparent for DNS stuff. Related place would likely be /etc/{named.conf,host.conf,hosts},/var/named .. But raunning the latest release give some secure feeling somehow ..

Actually resolving with /etc/hosts file is far easier for small LAN and also faster. But for administrator it is likely be not challenge enough ..

Am also doing that for learning purpose .near by., but in fact I also need that because am planning to run my webser with own domain at home, running own email-server to overcome those MB-limit of web-mails would likely be the nextstep ..

Uhm now better concentrating on DNS ..
