Gnome desktop does not refresh until reboot

I'm running etch and am having a problem with the gnome desktop.

Whenever I save/copy something to the desktop an icon for it does not appear until I reboot or restart the X server. Although when I check the .Desktop directory the file is there immediately.

I'm not positive but I think this problem started when I upgraded nautilus via apt.

Anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Try upgrading again, it might be corrected in a new version (if there is any...)

I'm running the newest version of etch. I reinstalled nautilus but that didn't fix it.

I noticed that the problem only occurs when adding icons to the desktop but when I move or delete something from the desktop it removes the icon right away.

I finally fixed the problem. For some reason the desktop directory was configured to open with Rhythmbox and all I had to do was to change it to "open folder".
