FTP transfer freezes

Hey guys!

I need some help in resolving a problem with my FTP server. I'm using APF for firewall and sometimes when i transfer A LOT of files over FTP to server, the transfer stops and simply hangs after let's say 100 files. It really depends, sometimes sooner sometimes later. Sometimes transfer continues after 2 minutes and sometimes it takes longer.
Size of the file doesn't matter!

Imagine that you have 200 files of small 1KB images, during upload it will freeze and i have to wait or press Stop transfer button for upload to continue. I'm using FileZilla on WinXP.

Now what i'm curious about is this a problem on my side (client) or could it be APF firewall or something else? Oh and FTP server is ProFTPd. Anyone else has the same 'problem'?

I also checked log files on server itself and can't find anything usefull to help me solve this thing..

Any help is welcome

Yeah, thanks for reply.

Just saw that i didn't mention something important also. It's not just FTP that freezes or better word would be locks me out but it sometimes also happens for web, mail, ssh...

I do have hardware firewall before server and i can access hardware firewall but during that lockup which usualy takes for a minute or so i can't access (www, mail, ssh,..) anything on server. Hardware firewall doesn't show anything in the logs, same goes for the server.

I'll try to run the server without server firewall for a few hours and do some tests.

Confirmed.

I just stopped APF firewall, uploaded lots of files, no problems at all. Started APF, uploaded the same files, after 2 minutes of uploading it stopped and still waiting.

Guess i'll need to dig into APF a bit more cause it looks like i missed something..
