transfer freezes for 600MB zip file via sftp

Hi,
I have the PC running fedora core 4 and a Windows XP laptop with psftp (putty client sftp). I try to get the file, but after the transfer of 10-20 MB the transfer freezes.
Ideas?

The transfer has now finished, but it has paused and resumed 3 times; 3 quite long pauses- more than 30''
